For our second and third projects in the Gateway Writing Minor course, we were asked to choose a piece of writing we loved and wanted to revisit. I selected my College Application essay that I wrote about the influence of Rory Gilmore from the television show Gilmore Girls. Our assignment for Project 2 was to repurpose or transform this piece of writing into something new. For the repurposing part of this project, I chose to create a Buzzfeed article about the lessons I have learned from Rory Gilmore. There are a few in particular that have influenced me more than others. “Lesson #4: School comes first. No questions asked.” has always resonated with me. I started watching Gilmore Girls in elementary school, and part of the reason I am so focused on schoolwork is due to Rory’s work ethic. I wanted to emulate her, and in turn became committed to doing well in school. Lesson #1 also relates to my experiences. Going to college so far from home was very frightening. I did not know many people on campus and missed my friends and family. However, Rory reminded me that school does get better, and I should give it time. Rory has influenced me countless times in my life and I am sure as I get older, she will do so again. I hope you enjoy my Buzzfeed article: 12 Things Rory Gilmore Taught Us About Growing Up.
